A concept for the installation of a modular personnel shelter system has been proposed, the components of which are the shelters themselves and the rational arrangement and selection of their characteristics. Shelters are called personnel shelters in the workplace, and among safety specialists they are also known as shelters-in-place. It has been established that the structures of personnel shelters are quite well known to industrial safety professionals and engineers of the companies designing and constructing them. It has been found that the formation of a shelter system, which aims to ensure the greatest possible safety of personnel at a hazardous industrial facility, is still an open question. The most general classification of shelters has been examined. Steel and reinforced concrete modular shelters have been discussed. Mathematical (optimization) methods that could be applied in finding the best arrangement of shelters have been briefly described. It has been examined how the problem of arranging modular ground shelters could be solved in the case of an oil refinery.

The final master's thesis examines cement鈥搇ime plaster mixtures modified with a natural organic additive 鈥 algae. The thesis consists of three parts: analytical, methodological, and experimental research. The analytical part reviews the properties of algae, their distribution in Lithuania, ecological significance, and possible applications. It also discusses dry plaster mixtures, the properties of cement鈥搇ime plaster, and research presented in scientific literature on the modification of plaster mixtures with organic additives. The methodological part describes the raw materials used in the research, their properties, the specimen preparation procedure, and the applied testing methods. Mixture compositions are presented, and the methods used to determine the density, water absorption, capillary water absorption, flexural strength, and compressive strength of hardened mortar according to applicable standards are described. The experimental research part presents the obtained test results and their analysis. The results showed that the algae additive influenced the water demand of plaster mixtures, the density of hardened mortar, water absorption, and mechanical properties. With increasing algae content, flexural and compressive strength decreased, while water absorption and capillary water absorption increased. The thesis concludes with conclusions and a list of references. Thesis volume 鈥 60 pages, 9 tables, 21 figures, 53 references, 2 appendices.

Annotation (EN)
The problem of assessing dimensions of fragments generated by fire-induced explosions of cylindrical pressure vessels is considered. The attention is focussed on boiling liquid expanding vapour explosions (BLEVEs). Assessing fragment dimensions comprises acquisition of raw data, bringing/processing this data to the form suitable for a Bayesian analysis and application of processed information to predicting fragmentation of vessels in future BLEVE accidents. The proposed procedure of assessing fragment dimensions is based on our previous work, in which a Bayesian approach to predicting fragmentation/failure patterns of cylindrical vessels has been developed. Algorithms suggested in the present study for collecting and processing data on fragment dimensions are conditioned by an existence of three fragmentation patterns that prevail in the statistics of vessel ruptures and produce rocket-like fragments known as oblong end-caps. These fragments are viewed as the most dangerous products of vessel ruptures. Assessing fragment dimensions is reduced to dealing with the length of the oblong end-caps. The results of this study were developed to better assess and reduce the risks posed by potential exposure to fragments generated by fire-induced container explosions.

Eksperimentiniai tyrimai atlikti taikant standartizuotus metodus: vir拧utin臈s degimo 拧ilumos nustatym膮 kalorimetrine bomba bei reakcijos 寞 ugn寞 bandymus pagal vieno degan膷io objekto metodik膮. Gauti rezultatai leid啪ia 寞vertinti antipirenini懦 tirpal懦 ir da啪懦 s膮veik膮 bei j懦 寞tak膮 medienos degumo savyb臈ms, taip prisidedant prie saugesnio ir efektyvesnio medienos naudojimo statyboje. This master's thesis investigates the flammability of wood and the possibilities of reducing it by using fire-retardant solutions in combination with paints. Wood is widely used in construction, interior and exterior applications, and other fields; however, its properties deteriorate over time due to environmental factors and its flammability poses an additional risk, especially when protective coatings such as paints and oils are applied. The aim of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness and potential of fire-retardant treatments in improving the fire resistance of wood. The research includes the analysis treatment materials, experimental testing of wood modified with fire-retardant solutions and paints, and a comparison of flammability characteristics of differently treated wood samples. The novelty of study lies in assessing not only the effectiveness of fire-retardant solutions but also their durability and performance when impregnated wood is additionally coated with a protective paint layer. Experimental methods include the determination of gross heat of combustion using a bomb calorimeter and reaction-to-fire testing based on the single burning item method. The results provide insights into the interaction between fire-retardant treatments and paints, contributing to safer and more efficient use of wood in construction. The thesis consists of an introduction, three chapters and conclusions. The volume of the work is 66 pages. The text contains 52 figures and 10 tables. The first chapter consists of five sections and nine subsections, the second of two sections and five subsections, the third of two sections.

Renovation and modernization of buildings is an everyday occurrence these days. According to statistics provided by the Environmental Management Agency, 4,521 apartment buildings have been renovated in Lithuania, and another 1,155 are currently under renovation now. Considering the renovated apartment buildings, this would constitute 15.7% of all apartment buildings in Lithuania that do not meet the energy efficiency requirements. In my opinion, the topic of my chosen work, Assessment of the implementation of fire safety requirements in renovated buildings, is relevant in order to ensure fire safety in such objects. Renovation sites become partly construction sites, into which buildings that are also operated fall, which causes additional risks. Such a concept as renovation is practically not distinguished in any documents regulating fire safety. Therefore, in my work, I want to review those documents that, in one way or another, regulate the work and procedures performed during the renovation process. The work reviews the risks and factors affecting fire safety, measures and practices to ensure safety. The situation, the experience of Lithuania and foreign countries in carrying out renovation processes, is briefly presented. The second part of the work examines a renovated medical building, in which the purpose is also changed. Existing and newly selected fire safety solutions and their implementation are discussed. The implementation of fire safety during the work is assessed. Theoretical fire modeling is performed. At the end of the work, conclusions and proposals are presented, and the identified shortcomings are reviewed.

The problem of designing fire smoke removal systems installed in underground car parks is considered. The problem is expressed as a problem of comparing alternative, different types of systems and selecting the most acceptable system. From a mathematical point of view, the problem is formulated as a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem. Different types of systems are compared using both economic MCDM criteria and criteria expressing the danger to people who may be affected by a fire in an underground car park. The latter criteria are called safety criteria and are used to express and compare the efficiency of the systems. It is shown that the implementation of the proposed MCDM procedure requires modelling of fire and evacuation in underground car parks. The MCDM method TOPSIS is used to compare alternative smoke removal systems. It is stated that the acceptability of smoke removal systems from an economic and safety point of view is possible only by analysing a specific underground car park design situation. Ranking systems that are suitable for all design cases is problematic due to the large number of indicators defining different cases. The procedure proposed in the work is intended to improve the design of smoke removal systems by formally assessing the contribution of those systems to fire safety.

The final thesis assesses the risk of forest edge fires to industrial infrastructure facilities, especially large-capacity atmospheric tanks of oil and its products. The impact of past natural fires on oil industry facilities is described. Lithuanian oil industry facilities regulated by the SEVESO III Directive and two large transport hubs located close to forests are described. The systems for control and safety ensuring of atmospheric oil product tanks and the components of those tanks that may be damaged by forest edge fires are described. A mathematical procedure is presented for assessing the impact of forest edge fires on oil product tanks. The proposed procedure is applied to analyzing tanks in the terminal of a large Lithuanian oil products company located at the edge of a pine forest.

This final thesis examines evacuation staircases and relevant legislation. The work also describes regulatory documents from foreign countries governing the width of evacuation staircases. In the research part of the thesis, using the Pathfinder evacuation simulation software, the total evacuation time from the building at Vytauto St. 23, Birzai is analysed, and the influence of staircase width on evacuation is evaluated by varying the staircase width. The thesis consists of five parts: an introduction, three main chapters, a conclusions, a list of references, and appendices. The total volume of the thesis is 55 pages of text (excluding appendices), 3 illustrations, 4 tables, 50 sources, and 7 appendices.

This final master鈥榮 thesis focuses on the use of granulated expanded glass in gypsum composites. The aim of the thesis is to develop an innovative core for plasterboards using expanded glass granules as a lightweight filler. The literature review discusses plasterbords, lightweight fillers, and the technical characteristics and potential applications of granulated glass in construction composites. In the experimental section, gypsum specimens with varying amounts of expanded glass granules were produced, and tests were conducted on setting time, visual consistency, density, flexural strength and compressive strength. A microstructural analysis of the fracture surfaces of the specimens was also performed using a microscope. The results of the studies showed that as the amount of expanded glass increases, the density of the specimens decreases, but mechanical strength also decreases. A strong linear dependence of density on flexural and compressive strength was established. The test results showed that the achieved relationship between density and strength was insufficient to meet the core properties of standard plasterbords; therefore, in the future, it would be advisable to use expanded glass granules of a larger fraction or to apply a different mixing technology that allows for the incorporation of more air into the mixture and a more effective reduction in the composite鈥檚 density. The problem of the impact of high temperatures, technological processes, and environmental conditions on steel building structures protected by fireproof coatings is examined. The focus is on passive fire protection coatings used in different, often aggressive environmental conditions, and changes in their fire resistance properties. The assessment of the effectiveness of fire protection coatings includes a theoretical analysis of the behavior of steel structures during a fire, a classification of the protective measures used, and an evaluation of the test results. The study examines different intumescent coatings, with and without additional protection against environmental influences. Fire resistance is assessed by standard tests, with the temperature raised according to the curve specified in standard LST ISO 834:1997. Changes in the condition of the samples after long-term exposure in a production environment, i.e., damage to their coatings, are analyzed. The results of the study are intended to justify the rational selection of fire-resistant coatings and the assessment of their operating conditions when designing steel structures.
